Artists associated with Madhubani paintings, particularly, from the village Ranti have seen various forms of economic exploitation over the ages. In 2007, Mithila Chitrakala Parishad, a self help group, was formed with an objective of protecting the artist’s interest and developing the art. The group consists of talented members (mostly women) with extreme vulnerabilities.
M/s Ranti, an export firm, was registered in 2010. The firm helps the artists associated with Mithila Chitrakala Parishad to reach the international market with ease. The firm has helped its artists to get a fair price and recognition for their pieces of art. It has broadened their livelihood spectrum and has united them to stand tough against the middlemen and established artists with exploitative intentions.
